Reunion Update
Thank you to all who have bought tickets so far for the reunion. I have to man up however and admit a goof that I made. I originally stated that the last time you could buy tickets was November 13 so that we could get a headcount for Rock Hill. After contacting Rock Hill, they stated that they did not need a head count until November 20. So what does that mean? You have 5 MORE DAYS to buy tickets if you haven't gotten one (and as an additional bonus, I will hold some other tickets at the door for any people who come in absolutely last minute so email me if you are interested in buying tickets at the door). So I apologize for the premature run on tickets (and there was quite a run) and I hope I didn't cause anyone to panic.
So now that my mea culpa is out of the way, lets get on to a mini-mailbag:
What is the dress code for the reunion?
The dress code is to wear something that is casual but nice (for example, no sweatpants). Guys - I will be wearing a button down shirt with a nice pair of jeans and black shoes. Girls - I have no idea what the equivalent outfit is for you ladies but I hope you catch the drift.
What day and what time is the reunion again?
The reunion is the day after Thanksgiving (Friday, November 27) and the reunion will go from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM.
So, how will this party bring an element of our class into the reunion? Are we having a slide show with old high school pictures? Are there going to be party favors like a pint glass that says "WHB Class of 1999 - 10 Year Reunion"?
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, to be honest, I have been so worried about spreading the word to as many people as possible and making sure that they bought tickets, i didn't really focus on this aspect. Now that we have sold more than 80 tickets (and orders are still trickling in), this is something that we could try to do. There will be no party favors as it is not in the budget. And there will be no slide show as we don't have the tools to use it. What we can try to do (and I have no idea if this will work or not) is if people have scanned pictures that they would like displayed at the reunion, please email them to me at wernerk@bc.edu and if we get enough responses, something very rudimentary will be put together. So if you have pictures readily available, send them and we will see what we can do.
I want to help during the reunion. What can I do?
I want to thank all the people who have offered their help. It is appreciated. The one thing that everyone can do is buy a ticket and enjoy themselves at the reunion. The great part of this reunion is that both Rock Hill and Danielle Ibba are taking care of a lot of the legwork and both are doing great jobs. But we still need three things:
1. Buy a ticket and enjoy yourself at the reunion. The great part of this reunion is that both Rock Hill and Danielle Ibba are taking care of a lot of the legwork and both are doing great jobs. With most of the work completed, you can all sit back and enjoy the food, the drinks and the dancing.
2. We need an Official photographer (or photographers) at the reunion. The photographer would (ideally) have a good digital camera, take pictures from time to time of people who attend the reunion (but the photographer would only take a pictures sporadically, I don't want them "working" the whole time at their own reunion) and would be able to share all of the photos on a website like Picasa, Flickr or Snapfish. If anyone has these set of skills, please email me at wernerk@bc.edu.
3. My one true goal was to spread the word about this reunion to all Class of 1999ers. In order to spread the word about the reunion, we set up a facebook page, a myspace announcement, put flyers up around Westhampton, put a notice in the Southampton Press, put a notice in the local Manorville paper and spread the word about the reunion through word of mouth. Despite trying to reach out to everyone in or class, I KNOW we haven't reached everyone and there may still be people that don't know about the reunion. So I was dumb enough to compile a list of names from the yearbook of people that I have NOT heard from. And thats where all of you come in. If you see someone on this list that you talk to or have contact with, let them know about the reunion. Without further ado, here are the people I would like to get in contact with (and as time goes on, I will remove people who have been contacted):
Get in contact with these people if you can. Tell them about the reunion. Direct them to whbclassof99.blogspot.com and let them know that tickets are still for sale.
Thanks for all your help on this. See you in 11 short days.

To all,
Sorry for the long delay between posts (I was waiting until a good WHB picture to pop up on Google and the above is the best I could come up with....the 2006 League Champs).

Class of 99 Mailbag

Well it has been a little while since the last post and there were a lot of people that asked me a lot of questions. Below are some of those questions I got on facebook, email, over the phone and in person. Welcome to the Class of 1999 mailbag.
When and where is the reunion?
It is on the FRIDAY after THANKSGIVING (November 27). This is the only thing set in stone. The location is to be determined.
Where did you get that weird Hurricane picture above?
I looked up "Westhampton Beach High School" on Google to find an image that I could put at the top of this website. Apparently this "mascot" attended the WHB High School Class of 2008 graduation. I didn't believe it was true until I looked in the background and discovered that is indeed our football field and track in the background and I then proceeded to throw up in my mouth. If that remains the WHB mascot, mark my words, I will never donate any money to WHB High School...... oh wait, I probably will never donate any money no matter who the mascot is.
I'm from the Class of 1979. Can you organize our 30 year reunion?
Uhhhhhhhhh, no.
Could we do the reunion in the summer? It seems like more people are around during the summer and not everyone comes back to Long Island for Thanksgiving.
I got this type of question more than any other question (I believe 3 or 4 of you got back to me with this or a similar question). While summer may be nice, I want to share these four points with everyone.
A. Availability of a place to have a reunion - Renting out a spot is much easier in the winter
B. The short timeline between now and the summer is small - If we did a reunion in the summer, it may not give everyone enough time to make travel arrangements and come to the reunion
C. The last two successful reunions were on the Friday after Thanksgiving - Previous classes say this date works and I believe them
D. Most of the people I talked to told me that they would be around the Friday after Thanksgiving - My most important priority is to get as many people to come to the reunion as possible.
So the Friday after Thanksgiving it is. I hope everyone can make it and my apologies for those who cannot.
I'm from the Class of 1998. We didn't have a 10 year reunion. Can you organize our 11 year reunion?
Uhhhhhhhhh, no.
Can we invite teachers that we liked? Not all the boring ones, just the fun ones that people generally enjoyed.
Maybe. If people would like to invite certain teachers, please propose the teacher you would like in the comments section below or email whbclassof99@gmail.com. When I get the names, I will put up a vote to see which teachers (if any) should be invited to the event.
Are you really going to invite the people from the class of 1998 and the class of 2000 to OUR ten year reunion? It sounds like an ok idea but I don't really know all of those people and it will bring in a lot more people than our class thus making the place more busy and potentially making it too crowded to talk to everyone in our class I wanted to talk to.
I thought it might be a neat idea to get several classes together but after seeing the results of the poll on the website, it appears that there are a large portion of people would not like to have all the classes. So we will restrict it to people in our class.
Are you f&%*$# kidding? You are going to invite people from the class of 1998 and 2000??????? I barely liked the people in our own class and now you are going to invite other people I don't like and barely even know.
Ok, ok. I get it. No other classes. Just the Class of 1999 will attend the reunion.
Do we have ANY money in our account from high school that could help subsidize dinner or drinks......(mostly to subsidize drinks)? Maybe the interest earned over the years would allow us to throw an awesome open bar bash with a sushi buffet and go-go dancers.
Well, I called the high school to see what money we had in the coffers and they told me that if there was any money, the President of the Class of 99 would have signed it over to a private account or given it to the Class of 2000. Since I don't remember doing either, I think that we had $0 in the coffers after the prom. Thats what happens when we run two fundraisers (the magazine sale that went to subsidize the prom and the pasta dinner we did that probably lost the class money) in four years. No fundraisers, no money (and thus, no go-go dancers).
Really?????? Casey's????? Can we class it up a little bit?
Sure we can. If people don't like the Casey's idea, we have another option. Danielle Ibba was kind enough to look far and wide for places that would make sense for our class to get together. After contacting many places in the area, she found that Rock Hill Country Club (which has just been newly renovated) would be willing to have us for a buffet, open bar and we could hire a DJ for about $60 per person. So the options break down like this:
Rock Hill Country Club: $60 open bar and a buffet, Dancing and DJ
Casey's (or a similar bar): A small or no cover, Buy your own drinks, No food, Dancing and DJ
There is a poll on the side of this website that will allow you to vote on which option you would prefer. Please take a second to vote on hich one you would like.
So how the hell are you going to get the 200 plus people together for the reunion?
When I asked this question to my father, he told me to put an ad in the Southampton Press, to which I responded, "Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!" ( I guess I can't fault him for being an old timer).
To get people together, I am trying a number of angles. I have gotten 87 people together in the Facebook page, Dennis Malerba has organized a myspace page, and I may even put something in the Southampton Press (to appease my dad). I have contacted the school (although they have no contact information that they could give to me) and am working on a registration system that will let me know who is interested in coming to the reunion. But the most important way to spread the news is WORD OF MOUTH. Please spread the word.
So if anything, please:
Remember: The reunion will be on the Friday, November 27 (the Friday after Thanksgiving).
Vote: It will take you TWO seconds to vote on what kind of event you want. Dinner and Open bar at Rock Hill or Casey's with a cash bar.
and finally, please
SPREAD THE WORD. I would like to see as many Class of 99ers as possible.
Thanks, Kevin
The next website post will be in about a month

Welcome Class of 1999
Hello, Class of 1999. Somehow, someway, we graduated 10 years ago (I found the picture above to help illustrate that fact) and now its time to have a 10 year reunion. I promised some people that this process would start right after the holidays, but its only getting started now (I'm only 4 months late, sorry about that).
So, what does a 10 year reunion consist of? To be honest, I have no idea. But since it has been only 10 years, and many of us have seen each other relatively recently, I thought it would be a good idea to avoid the black tie sit-down affair (costing everyone $150 a head) and have something a little less formal. So, to make things as easy as possible and to prevent the reunion from falling apart (like what happened to the class of 1998 reunion), I propose the following:
When: Friday, November 27 (the Friday after Thanksgiving)
Where: At a bar (hopefully Casey's in Westhampton)
And that's it. That's the grand idea. I think it will work well and I'm looking forward to it. There are a few things that may be helpful to discuss:
And finally, while I was talking to Shira, she was talking about her college reunion and how several classes (one older and one younger) came in during the reunion. Since all of us hung out with some people that are older and some people that are younger, do we think it is appropriate to invite people from the class of 1998 and 2000 to our renuion? There is a poll on the right side of this post where you can vote on whether you think it is a good idea or not.
If you need to contact me or anyone else who will be involved in the reunion process, please email whbclassof99@gmail.com (and please be patient with the response, it may take some time).
Thats it. More posts to come. I look forward to seeing all of you.
-Kevin

- This option is not kid friendly. Is this a problem for anyone?
- We may need some volunteers to help with a number of tasks: people to gather information for an information book, a photographer at the reunion, a DJ (or someone with a stocked ipod), organizing old pictures for a website or slideshow, etc.
- If anyone has any other ideas other than Casey's for a place or what events could be planned for the evening, they would be welcome
